RECYCLING WEEK

w/c 28-09-2026

Following the launch of our new Planet Champions, children across Haughton School and our hubs have had great fun celebrating Recycling Week.

Throughout the week, classes took part in a wide range of exciting recycling and sustainability activities. Children have been out in the local community litter picking, helping to keep our environment clean and tidy. Creative minds were put to work using recycled materials to create fantastic pieces of artwork, while others enjoyed junk modelling, transforming everyday waste into imaginative robots and inventions.

Some classes also put their sewing skills to good use in our Cuddly Toy Hospital, where much-loved toys were repaired and restored, giving them a new lease of life rather than being thrown away. This was a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about reusing and repairing items, helping to reduce waste and care for the things we already have.

At Millbrook hub, the children have been learning about how we can protect our oceans and sea animals by reducing plastic waste and keeping plastic out of the sea.  They sorted rubbish into different recycling groups and learning why recycling is so important.  Children also enjoyed litter picking and talking about our wonderful planet Earth and the different things we can do to look after, it protect it and keep it happy and healthy.

Throughout the week, all children in school also enjoyed many other recycling-themed activities, developing their understanding of sustainability through hands-on learning, creativity and teamwork. The week provided lots of opportunities for pupils to think about how their actions can help protect our environment and make a positive difference to the world around them.

Our new Planet Champions have been excellent role models, encouraging others to make environmentally friendly choices and helping to spread important messages about reducing waste, reusing materials and recycling wherever possible.

We are incredibly proud of all our children for embracing Recycling Week with such enthusiasm and creativity. Together, we are taking small steps that can make a big difference to our planet.

Many more activities have taken place across the school and our hubs. Please see your child's class newsletter for further information and photographs of all the fantastic learning that has taken place during Recycling Week!
